Okay bear with me here, I know we’re still in summer (and I’m not letting go of that any time soon) but Autumn is just around the corner and you know what they say about the early worm. I’m currently planning which autumn/winter trends I’m loving for 2018 and boy is it getting me all excited. I never want to wish away summer but many older readers will know that Autumn is my key strength, I very openly admit I don’t do summer style all that well but give me a check coat and some minimal layering and I am there! So read on to hear about the trends I’ll be following this season.
Oh this is definitely my favourite one – I knew investing in that check blazer earlier this year right before Spring was going to keep me in good stead and I’m so happy about it.
Ganni are all over it this year (not to mention the elephant in the room that is Burberry) but you can find some affordable alternatives in Topshop and on Asos.
Want to wear the trend transitionally? Check skirts are everywhere right now, pair with a plain white tee and a black biker jacket with black ankle boots and you’re all set!
That 70s Show
We are definitely going back to the days of Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher with this trend and it’s another that is transitioning well from summer.
All those rust coloured tee shirts and vests will be perfect to see you through this trend for Autumn – maybe invest in a good pair of kick flare black jeans as your minimal basic and think about accessorising through belts and head scarves. Look to Chloe and Tory Burch for designer inspo.
Well it didn’t take too long for this one to come back around. I remember a look from my early blogging days with a disastrous leopard print top and very little style so I’ll admit I haven’t got a good track record here. This year I’m planning to keep it simple rather than totally embody the trend by letting my accessories do the talking. There MIGHT be a leopard print blouse in there at some point and I have to admit I’m majorly crushing over Topshop’s snakeskin pieces. Droooooooool.

Hell for leather
This is another I’m super excited about as I know I have some great pieces I can pull out from last year! We’re seeing a lot of leather dresses from designers like Prada and Alexander McQueen but I’m thinking more about patent leather trench coats (think a dark burgundy) and leather trousers tucked into some ankle boots. However you choose to wear the trend, don’t over do the leather and if you’re worried about a leather dress standing out too much, layer either under or over to tone down the look.
I’m going to say it now that this is one I can’t see myself going full-throttle on. I’ve never really been into cowboy boots or tassels and fringing but I do have a western belt so I feel that that’s the perfect nod to the trend and with the likes of Isabel Marant opening her show with Jolene, you just know that the trend is here to stay!
Wrap it up
Capes and blanket coats are making a come back this year with the likes of Gucci and Alexander McQueen nailing the oversized look. It’s a little early to see any on the high street just yet but the usual suspects for a good quality cape are often Reiss, Jaegar (oh do you remember ‘that’ cape?) and Next. I’m positive Zara will be bringing out a super chic alternative as well.
Another favourite of mine – mostly due to my love of Chanel – and we’re already seeing this one filter down onto the highstreet with Zara introducing some beautiful tweed dresses and matching jackets. I love how chic this trend is but also so classic; you can choose to go all out head to toe tweed or stick to a skirt or jacket and either look so effortlessly chic. Look to Louis Vuitton and Miu Miu for tweed overload!
Graphic prints and logos
I am definitely blaming this one on Fendi with probably a smack on the wrist for Gucci there too.
This trend is for the bold and it’s not surprising since we’ve been seeing some classic prints coming back to catwalks through the likes of Dior and Gucci.
Logos are everywhere, whether it’s on a jumper, a scarf, your bag or your entire look, there are a number of ways to wear the trend.
There are so many more trends as well that I haven’t covered – silks, pleats, silver (yes it’s back unfortunately), hats, there are just so many to choose from! I hope you’ve enjoyed this small round up of the trends and that you find it helpful.
Thanks for reading.
