We’re moving into my least favourite time of the year – and no, not summer (that’s glorious!) but sale season. I don’t know about you but I used to really love it, being right around my birthday and having huge shopping trips to Brighton with my sisters and friends (Back when £200 felt like being rich and you were quite happy eating meatball subs and pizza all day long). I look back on these memories fondly, they were some of my best from my early teenage years. But now the sales irritate me beyond belief; perhaps it’s the fact I can’t drop everything on a Tuesday and go to Brighton anymore, perhaps it’s that there’s always something more sensible to spend my money on, perhaps it’s the fact that all I see on Instagram is ‘swipe up’ to buy or maybe it’s just that the sales are a bit rubbish these days (Net-a-Porter, you are the exception!).
So whether you’re shopping the sales or not, here are the summer styles you need to look out for this year to help you navigate those offers!
As you might be able to tell from these pics I am seriously loving neutrals at the moment! I’ve always loved an all white outfit in summer but this year I aimed to include some more earthy tones – these always used to be my favourite when I was young (eek now I’m remembering a disastrous ‘chocolate’ outfit I used to wear constantly!). If in doubt, pair with white only and keep accessories tan in colour. Your plain white shirt is also a fail safe in this area – it can be worn/tied in a number of different ways to elevate a look, also maximise your gold and pearl jewellery for instant glam!
I’ve got to admit that when I first started putting my Instagram together here in Bermuda I was a bit taken aback and just how many blue and white striped outfits there were! Clearly I love this combo and you should too – it’s flattering and can be worn in so many ways (and goes perfectly with straw bags!). This year we’re seeing a lot of beige and yellow stripes coming into the mix too thanks to the likes of Sezane – also perfect with straw bags and great for the beach!
Similar to above, we’re seeing more yellow tones creeping into our summer wardrobes – I’m not complaining AT ALL but I must admit it’s a colour I’ve never really worn. Here’s to trying new things and experimenting a bit more. Yellow can be difficult to style but stick to black, white and neutrals (including tans) and you’re on to a winner! Strangely pink is also a really good combo!
Oh yes, they are EVERYWHERE! I’ve seen some complaints that people can’t get away from them but personally I love them and they really are so chic in summer. Worn with linen in a dress, cami or shorts, neatly sewn onto a boyfriend-fit blazer – I mean, come on! They’re perfect and go with everything!
Now this might not be to everyone’s tastes but bear with me, I’ve seen it done really well! The easiest way to wear this trend is definitely in bag form – tote bags with Vogue visible and maybe an orange in there too (why not) but also trench coats are really popular and great for the UK. They’re a great way to show off your outfit without having it totally covered up – essential really in London. There are some really afforable options on the high street as well that you can give a go.
