It feels quite strange writing this post because anyone who has followed me for a while (aka angels) will know that I don’t really wear a lot of colour – shocker! I have my reasons for this and the main one is for simplicity; I have enough stress and anxiety in my life and keeping a more monochromatic wardrobe just makes life that little bit easier. That was until red became the statement colour for the autumn/winter season. Let’s just say you can expect to see a lot of it this fashion month.
I wasn’t go to wear it, I said to myself ‘nope!’ but the other day I just happened to be doing a Topshop haul and came across a beautiful chunky knit that I just stared at for a few seconds. It. Was. Stunning.
But wearing red can be a little difficult – it’s so statement, especially if you wear it ‘red-to-toe’ – but that’s the beauty of the bold colour, it’s there to be seen and be showcased.
I knew exactly how I was going to wear this jumper when I saw it and I’m so happy with how the look turned out, I love that it’s not totally all red but gives the jumper the chance to really stand out and be statement.
Wearing red in chunky knits or in details such as bags or earrings (pops of red) is a fantastic way to pay homage to the trend without rocking it full-on. Another great way to double up on the colour is by adding a red coat or jacket, in my head I’m thinking an A-Line and wide cuffed wool coat going perfectly over a red turtle neck.
Adding burgundy is another great way to be red-to-toe without feeling too over the top, wear it with your bag, your shoes and maybe your bottom layer to really maximise the shades and feel fantastic!
Are you wearing red this season? How do you plan to style it?
