Whether you’ve been blogging for a month or for a few years the blogging community has been around for some time and no matter how many times I get down and frustrated about stats or imagery and think about quitting it’s just something I couldn’t imagine closing the door on.
Let’s be honest though, there are times when blogging does get you down – I love to end on a positive so let’s talk about why blogging can just make me want to throw in the towel for good first. The problem is that some people don’t see blogging as a community and are very much out for themselves. It’s no secret that follow/unfollow is rife on Instagram and it makes you want to scream when you go to bed with a number you’re happy with and wake up with ten or more less followers.
That said it shouldn’t always be about numbers but you can’t help but feel cheated when people try to grow and beat the system by using bots. It’s a hobby sure but the amount of time and effort that goes into maintaining a blog feels like you’re running in a race without shoes on.
Anyway, I love my little slice of the internet so I want to talk about that just a little bit.
I started blogging a few years ago as a way to disconnect from a stressful job. Unfortunately I couldn’t commit the time (I can only imagine where I could be now if I just stuck at it) so gave it up for a short while until I started in a job that meant I could spend a bit more time on my passion.
I love that it’s unique – it might be a very saturated market but in my circle of friends and my colleagues I’m the only one that has a blog and to me I feel that’s unique. I used to be embarrassed to say I had one but now I’m proud and if someone asks me to tell them an interesting fact about myself I’m more than proud to say “I have a Youtube channel/blog”.
I love meeting/speaking to new people. Or rather, people like me! If I started talking about Armani’s new foundation at work I’d get a lot of blank stares so it’s really great to be part of a community of like minded people.
Working with brands is amazing! I still can’t believe that I get to do it but having the odd campaign with some well known brands makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside and gives me the motivation to keep going.
What do you love (or hate) about blogging?
