Why it's okay to feel envy

Woah here goes another slightly more personal post - I hope you guys don't mind, it's something I really want to do more of this year and bring a bit more 'me' to these pictures.
This is a topic that I've kinda wanted to talk about for a while - I guess it feels a bit taboo at times to talk about being 'envious' or - heaven forbid - jealous! But it's normal and beating yourself up for feeling that way isn't going to help anyone!

So there is a difference between jealously and envy - jealously is definitely natural but this is usually a more personal thing - someone you started work with at the same time got a promotion that you felt you deserved or your best friend started going out with the bloke you fancy. These kind of emotions, if not addressed, can be harmful to your mental wellbeing and you should try and talk to someone or reflect on how you can make the situation better.

Now...envy...slightly different story, this is often more common and I'm going to put it out there - it can be a good thing! One thing I will state up front though is that comparison is the thief of joy and comparing yourself to someone who is 5"9 when you're 5"4 just isn't going to be good for you - you can't do anything about it so leave it behind and don't worry about it - I know, easier said than done.

But lately I've been finding myself a little envious and surprised myself with how much it is actually driving me. A lot of my friends have all bought houses and we're still renting - we're saving and are almost there with our deposit - but sometimes it makes me feel 'left behind'. But then I remember that actually, we're the first couple to get married and whilst they have started on a 'first home' we're hoping to get a family one - so definitely worth the wait. Getting to the envy bit though - actually feeling a little bit envious of their hard wood floors and bright, light rooms makes me work harder, it makes me pick up on phone take more pictures, it makes me go out in the snow and get that outfit of the day. I'm happy for all my friends, I want them to have everything they have and more (to not would be jealousy) but they make me want the same and that's a good thing!

I'm not sure what I'm really trying to say here, I guess it's to let you know that whilst comparison will get you nowhere, sometimes looking at others can drive you - remember they didn't just get everything handed to them, they worked for it and so can you. I hate it when people say to me 'why are you going to the gym, you're already thin' and they don't realise that actually I work hard to keep the shape that I'm in - these people are never going to get fit because they fail to realise that their jealously is founded in the misbelief that you can get something without having to work hard for it.

Putting this into blogging terms, guys the followers are definitely not going to fall into your lap, you will need to work hard for them but use others for inspiration to better your content and push yourself.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy the pictures if not the ranty post, until next time!

  10. I appreciate how honest you are about your feelings, because I know a lot of people wouldn't admit to that. I do feel envious of the people around me sometimes, but I also remember to be grateful for what I have and that I'm capable of achieving things too. I'm digging this spring-inspired outfit <3
